Should I Apply for a Patent?

One of the main questions I help to answer is if you should be applying for a patent.

The answer is: it depends.

Why are you applying for a patent?
How do you hope to benefit from obtaining a patent?
What will you be using your patent for?
Do you have the financial resources to undertake the patent application process?
If you are granted a patent, do you have the financial resources to defend your patent if necessary?

These are some questions worth asking yourself before diving head-first into the process of either hiring a legal representative to undertake the application process or intiate the process yourself as a “pro se” applicant.
